Focus and Scope

Focus

The Journal of Innovative Educational Research (JIER) is a scholarly publication dedicated to advancing the academic discourse on innovation within the educational sciences. As a regionally-focused journal, JIER strategically prioritizes research articles that address the educational contexts of Southeast Asian countries. Furthermore, we particularly welcome contributions from researchers affiliated with institutions within this region. This commitment is reflected in every issue, which consistently features articles relevant to the dynamics of Southeast Asian education. Nevertheless, we also extend a broad welcome to manuscripts from international researchers whose work holds global relevance and contributes to the universal body of educational knowledge.

Scope

The journal covers a wide array of topics, categorized as follows:

1.     Innovative Teaching & Learning Methods: JIER publishes research that investigates the effectiveness and implementation of modern pedagogical methods. This includes empirical studies on project-based learning, flipped classrooms, and technology-supported collaborative approaches. We seek contributions that not only describe these methods but also analyze their impact on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning outcomes, as well as measure student motivation and engagement.

2.     Curriculum & Reform: We accept manuscripts that critically analyze, design, or evaluate educational curricula. This encompasses research on curriculum reform processes, the integration of interdisciplinary subjects, and the curriculum's response to contemporary socioeconomic demands. Articles that examine the impact of curriculum policies on classroom practice and student performance are highly encouraged.

3.     Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis: This section focuses on the role of leadership in driving change and innovation within educational institutions. We seek research that analyzes the function of transformational leadership, evidence-based decision-making, and critical analysis of educational policies. JIER encourages research that explores how macro-level policies can affect the equity, quality, and efficiency of education systems at the micro-level.

4.     Assessment, evaluation & Measurement: The journal serves as a platform for research on innovations in assessment theory and practice. Relevant topics include the development of valid and reliable assessment instruments, the use of formative assessment for diagnostic learning, and the application of technology in evaluation (e-assessment). We welcome studies that investigate how assessment data can be leveraged to improve teaching practices and effective interventions.

5.     Teacher Education & Professional Development: We publish research that examines the effectiveness of pre-service and in-service teacher education programs. The focus includes continuous professional development, the impact of mentorship, and the role of technology in enhancing teacher competencies. Articles that investigate how teachers can act as agents of innovation in the learning environment are highly sought after.

6.     Inclusive & Equitable Education: JIER publishes research that strives to create fair and inclusive learning environments for all students, regardless of their social, economic, or ability-related backgrounds. This includes pedagogical strategies for students with special needs, multicultural education, and the evaluation of policies designed to reduce educational gaps. We are interested in research that offers practical models for achieving a more equitable education system.
